Aloo matar is a very basic yet classic and tasty recipe of India, There might be a dish that you have been thinking of since childhood to prepare and serve everyone.I know aalo matar is one of them.

Aloo matar is a recipe with peas and potatoes cooked with spices, it’s a very comforting yet very easy recipe, and it is our favorite food at house

How to make aloo matar

Preparation time 10 minutes
Cooking time 25-30 minutes
Serve 2-4


For Tempering
2 tbsp Oil, तेल
½ tsp Cumin seeds, जीरा
Prepared Ginger Garlic Paste, तयार किया हुआ अदरक लहसुन का पेस्ट
2 ½ medium Onion, chopped, प्याज
½ tsp Turmeric powder, हल्दी पाउडर
2 tbsp Coriander powder, धनिया पाउडर
Tomato Green chili Paste, टमाटर हरी मिर्च का पेस्ट
1 ½ tbsp Degi red chili powder, देगी लाल मिर्च पाउडर
2-3 tsp Ghee, घी
6-7 medium Potato,cut into cubes, आलू
1 ½ cup fresh Green peas, हरी मटर
3-4 cups Water, पानी
Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार

For Tomato Green chili Paste
2 medium Tomatoes, chopped, टमाटर
¼ cup Coriander leaves, धनिया पत्ता
2 Green chillies, broken into half, हरी मिर्च

For Ginger Garlic Paste
1 inch Ginger, roughly chopped, अदरक
6-7 Garlic cloves, लहसुन
Salt to taste, नमक स्वादअनुसार


In a pan or sauce pot, add oil, once it’s hot, add cumin and let it splutter.

Add prepared ginger garlic paste, onions and saute it well until translucent.

Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute for a minute.

Add prepared tomato green chili paste(I was short in time so i used chopped ones)and cook it for 2-3 minutes on moderate heat.

Add degi red chili powder and saute, add ghee, and mix well.

Add potatoes and stir it well, add green peas, water and mix everything well.

Add a half teaspoon of garam masala

Cover it with the lid and cook it for 8-10 minutes on moderate heat or until the potatoes are cooked.

Transfer it to the serving dish and garnish it with coriander sprig.
Serve hot.
